The release was immediately controversial: over 500 pages were entirely blacked out, and a technical redaction failure — using visual overlays instead of data-level text removal — allowed hidden text to be extracted through standard copy-paste operations. The DOJ corrected the redaction technique in its subsequent January 30, 2026, release.
